Karen C. Winckler

Of Counsel
Las Vegas, Nevada

Karen Winckler’s legal career has centered on criminal  defense, both in state and federal courts. Ms. Winckler joined the firm following a judicial clerkship with U.S. District Judge Philip M. Pro in Las Vegas.  Since that time she has passionately and aggressively defended her many clients.  In 1995, Ms. Winckler filed a federal class action suit to address the constitutionality of the practice in Clark County, Nevada, of arresting and holding criminal defendants for eight days without bringing them before a judge.   The federal court found this procedure unconstitutional and ordered the State to release inmates within 48 hours after arrest unless the Justice Court found additional time was needed for investigation, such as in murder cases, a rule that remains in effect.  In 1997, Ms. Winckler was named Defender of the Year by the Nevada Attorneys for Criminal Justice.
